An earlier desktop version of Windows that debuted in 2009 (see
Windows versions). Although Microsoft offered Win7 users a free upgrade to Win10, many people retained Win7 because they felt it was solid. Support ended in 2020, but as of 2026, it is estimated that as many as 50 million people still it. See

Enhancements to the User Interface
Windows 7 added multitouch for touchscreens, as well as the "Superbar" taskbar similar to the Dock in the Mac. The upgraded taskbar allows icons to be rearranged instead of being fixed in position.
Jump Lists
When an application is open, right clicking its icon in the taskbar displays a list of the last files accessed. Developers can also add a Jump list to their apps.
Library Folders
Selected files and folders can be grouped in a "Library" that displays at the top of the file/folder hierarchy in Explorer (see
Windows Libraries).
