AI chatbots had only been on the scene a couple years when troubles began to emerge. AI is a whole new paradigm, because chatbot software and traditional data processing are about as far apart architecturally as a plum tree and a motorcycle. See neural network and deep learning.

An auto dealer chatbot agreed to sell a new car for a dollar; Air Canada offered a bereavement fare refund that never existed; a U.K. company swore at a customer, insulted itself and wrote a poem about it; Google's AI advised users to "eat rocks" for health purposes and recipe generators recommended poisonous dishes. This was the headline in the April 2026 online edition of PC Gamer. The article went on to say that the Cursor AI coding agent running the Claude Opus 4.6 model deleted the company database and backups and then admitted "I guessed instead of verifying. I ran a desctructive action without being asked. I didn't understand what I was doing before doing it." This AI actually expressed guilt! Where are we headed? Stay tuned!
