Definition: codebase


(1) The source code for an operating system or application platform. The codebase may be the bulk of the code used or just the critical routines (see kernel). The term may also be used to contrast platforms; for example, a Linux vs. Windows codebase.

(2) (CodeBase) A database engine for Windows, Mac, Unix and Linux from Sequiter Software Inc., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Compatible with dBASE file formats and most development environments, CodeBase is used in applications for desktop computers and handheld devices.
